It also completely changes how the other two DLC interact with your game if you don't force it not to on game start. The way your troops level up has been overhauled,there are three new "hero" units you can get from each of the Resistance subfactions, there are new enemies with new mechanics, the AI and abilities have all been tweaked to improve your quality of life, there is an added layer to the Strategy section, in covert Ops, and the 3 new resistance factions that you can give orders every month to determine what they do for you, and there are the Alien's 3 champions, the Chosen, who will get up to - and cause trouble for you, and who can't die until you learn enough about them individually and complete a special mission for each one. War of the Chosen changes the game so much, I honestly count it as sorta XCom 3, or at least 2.5.
The only good side is that their health bar is mostly consistent between every time they show up, so you can slowly chip them down until they die, and you can skin them to make neat armor. The Alien Rulers are bosses that will occasionally show up in normal missions, and will then proceed to rape your - until they get bored and just leave. Of the three main DLCs: Shen's gift has a fairly minor impact, it adds a cool story mission and lets you build robot troops, but they play and level just like normal troops so it isn't that dramatic.Īlien Hunters gives you a short Story Mission that's kinda neat, and some cool unique weapons that you can actually lose, and it adds the Alien Rulers. Play XCom or XCom 2 or War of the Chosen if you want a tighter tactical system, with stupid alien rules (look up XCom pods, it's really dumb) that they've made to work, and a strategy layer that is mostly just finding which option you like best while avoiding the obvious lose conditions.įor XCom 2, there are three main DLCs that actually have an impact on the game: Shen's Gift, Alien Hunters, and War of the Chosen. Play X-Com and its sequels if you want a -ton of inventory management and Stalinist tactics while you barely hold your strategy together against the Alien's BS. X-Com and XCom are both fun games, but they play very differently and really aren't that similar.
